Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

General CNC Machining
Q: What is CNC machining?
A: CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses programmed tools to precisely remove material from a solid workpiece. We offer CNC milling, CNC turning, and 4-axis machining services.
Q: What materials can you machine?
A: We regularly machine aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, plastics (Delrin, PEEK, Nylon, etc.), and some exotic alloys. Let us know your application and we’ll recommend the best material.
Q: What tolerances can you hold?
A: We routinely hold tolerances of ±0.0004" (±0.010mm) depending on geometry, material, and inspection requirements. Tighter tolerances are available upon request.
Q: What industries do you serve?
A: We serve aerospace, medical, robotics, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment industries. Our customers range from startups to Fortune 500 manufacturers.

Rapid Prototyping
Q: How fast can I get a prototype?
A: We offer lead times as short as 3 business days depending on complexity, material, and capacity.
Q: Can I order just one part?
A: Yes! We specialize in no minimum quantity CNC machining — perfect for prototyping and R&D.
Q: Do you offer design support or DFM feedback?
A: Absolutely. Our engineers provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) guidance and CAD modeling support as needed.

Low-Volume Production
Q: What’s considered a low-volume production run?
A: Typically between 10 and 500 parts. We’re optimized for short-run, bridge production, and just-in-time fulfillment.
Q: Do you keep my programs and setups for reorders?
A: Yes — all jobs are documented, and setups are stored for quick repeatability and consistent quality.
Q: Do you offer post-processing or finishing?
A: We partner with trusted vendors for anodizing, chem film, powder coating, and more. We can also handle engraving, marking, and simple assemblies.

Inspection & Quality
Q: What inspection capabilities do you offer?
A: We offer CMM inspection and full dimensional reports. First Article Inspection (FAI) is available upon request.
Q: Are you ISO certified?
A: We follow ISO 9001-compliant processes and are continuously improving our documentation and traceability systems.
Q: Can I request an inspection report with my parts?
A: Yes — inspection reports can be included for any prototype or production order. Let us know your requirements.

Quotes, Orders, and File Types
Q: How do I request a quote?
A: Use our Request a Quote form or email your CAD files to [contactus@quartisis.com]. We respond within 24 hours.
Q: What file types do you accept?
A: We accept STEP, IGES, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and DXF/DWG for prints. PDF drawings are helpful for tolerances and callouts.
Q: Where are you located and do you ship nationwide?
A: We're based in Eden Prairie, MN and ship CNC machined parts across the US.
